[i] illibata] ilibata Librone 1, C
[ii] sumpseris] sumpsceris Librone 1, T
[iii] sempiterna] senpiterna Librone 1, C A T B
The sixth motet in Compère’s cycle Hodie nobis de virgine was edited according to Librone 1, ff. 176v–177r, the only source for this motet. The scribe (Scribe A) inserted some variant spellings, for instance single for double consonants (‘ilibata’ instead of illibata in C), the use of n followed by p (‘senpiterna’ instead of sempiterna in all voices), and the spelling mpsc instead of the classical mps (‘sumpsceris’ instead of sumpseris in T).
The motet text consists of two stanzas drawn from the hymn Memento salutis auctor used in the Little Office of the Virgin Mary. The celebration of Mary as well as the fact that the first stanza used in the motet (the third of the original hymn) is modelled on the Christmas hymn Christe redemptor omnium point again to the fact that this motet and motet cycle were composed to be performed during Christmas time. The loco rubric (‘post Elevationem’) indicates that this particular motet was sung after the elevation of the host.
