ANNALI 1885, 181; ROSSI 2019A; ROSSI 2019C
In ANNALI 1885, 181, a motet "Trophaeum crucis" for five voices is attributed to Compère. In Librone 1 both the music and the part of the index related to this piece are well preserved and the attribution to Compère is not in the manuscript. Probably it stems from an error of the compiler of the ANNALI, who saw that this piece is listed in the same column of the index as the "Hodie nobis" cycle, explicitly attributed to "Loyset". It must be noticed, however, that between this cycle and "Trophaeum crucis" there are two other motets, which appear as anonymous in the index, but are attributed to Gaffurius at the beginning of the pieces. Therefore, the attribution to Loyset can not be extended to the whole column. According to ROSSI 2019A and ROSSI 2019C, 183, "Trophaeum crucis" has to be ascribed to Gaffurius because of its mensuration signs, and as part of the motet cycle "Magnum nomen domini". However, according to WARD 1986, 500, and GASSER 2001, 332, this cycle does not include "Trophaeum crucis".
